Ways to Volunteer & Practice Kindness

Volunteer Opportunities

Food Donations
Please donate any extra food (cooked food, whole produce, bread, ANYTHING!) to Access to Excess.  Please contact Jen Burns at [email protected].  They will safely pick-up any wholesome food that wants to be donated and find the appropriate organization to distribute it!

Premier Health: Ways To Help
Many also are asking “How can I help?” We’re very grateful for your offers of assistance. As we work together to fight COVID-19, here are some ways to help our patients, caregivers, and community. We have set up a special email – [email protected] - to accept offers of support. Some suggested ways to support are listed here.

How to Help

  • Does someone need prescriptions picked up from a pharmacy?
  • Does someone who is considered high-risk need a grocery run?
  • Is there a friend, neighbor, or family member in need of a babysitter because they are a healthcare worker or first responder?
  • Would you be able to make or send an uplifting card or letter to our elderly or disabled friends and neighbors in nursing and assisted living facilities?
  • Would you be able to send a meal via a meal delivery service to a department or group at your local doctor’s office or the police or fire department?
  • Would you be willing to start a phone tree to call and encourage someone who may feel isolated and alone?

Practice Kindness

Kindness is a science-backed way to support your family’s emotional health and share a sense of positivity and purpose.
Now more than ever we know that action feels better than anxiety. Here are three new ways we are working to help your family connect and give back this week.
  • Check out new DGT Kindness Kit containing all you need to make a difference right from your own kitchen table! We'll mail it to you in a 9 x 12 envelope. Just add markers, a few decorating supplies, and your own creativity! Advocate for issues that matter; combat hunger; treat homebound folks to creative artwork; share gratitude with people who mean the world to you; and spark fun, meaningful conversations about empathy, compassion and the common good.
  • We're proud to offer a Digital Kindness Kit, if that's your preference. Use the coupon code KINDNESS to download it for free.
  • Connect with our Kindness in Action - Live! Visit Facebook at 10:00 AM central on Tuesdays and Thursdays as two DGT families take turns hosting a big-hearted activity and story time. Join us! Ask questions, follow along, and share your ideas with us.

Kitchen Table Kindness for Your Big-Hearted Family
In this unprecedented time of social distancing and simplified schedules, Doing Good Together is here as always to empower you to engage your family in compassionate, community-supporting projects.  We’ve compiled a short but meaningful list of big-hearted projects for kitchen table kindness. These simple activities will inspire your family to support one another and our local communities during this strange time.

Practicing Kindness During The Coronavirus
This is an unprecedented time, and we need unprecedented kindness. How can you be kind and still protect yourself and your family? Here are some ideas.

SNUGGLE UP WITH A BIG-HEARTED MOVIE MARATHON!
Spend a cozy evening with a good movie and a GOOD deed. Grab your favorite coloring books and create art for Color-a-Smile, make no-sew blankets for Project Linus, or decorate gift bags for Meals on Wheels.  Discover great character-building movie lists and movie-friendly project ideas here. Talk to your child: How can we add kindness to other favorite family activities?

Dayton Children’s invites you to send a patient an e-card
The limit on visitors means child patients may be missing friends and family, Dayton Children’s officials said. To help fill the gap and bring a little cheer to their patients, Dayton Children’s is offering you the opportunity to send a child an e-card that includes a special message from you to them.  Visit childrensdayton.org/patientcards to choose one, two or all three of the cards. When you click the link, you’ll be taken to a page where you add a message as well as your name and email address.

Supporting Cincinnati Children’s!
Our team is working harder than ever to protect kids during the COVID-19 crisis. We also are continuing to provide expert, compassionate care for children facing many other health challenges. You can help cheer on our staff when feelings of worry and fatigue creep in. Please take a moment to send a note of encouragement. Your words could be just what a staff member needs to recharge and refocus on what matters most – the health and wellness of our children. Send a message of encouragement today »

Loving Our Elderly Neighbor During the Coronavirus
Here are a few suggestions for keeping our elderly family and friends safe during this time.

Picture
Be the I in Kind Handout Our BE THE "I" IN KIND Campaign was created as a tool to teach our children about the importance of being kind to one another.
Directions:
  • Print the FREE downloadable worksheets
  • Have children draw a self portrait in place of the "I"
  • Have them then write What being KIND means to them (on page 2)
  • Discuss with your child or your classroom ways we can all be kind to one another and the responsibility we all share
We will be publishing a book soon and would love submissions:
Email us photos of your students work to [email protected]
Mail us a hard copy (or photocopy) of their worksheet to PO Box 773, West Barnstable, MA 02668
Be sure to only include the child's first name and age on the worksheet
